Independent audits for supported exempt and transitional housing

Resident supportfiles that stand upto scrutiny.

Support Audit checks resident support files for Registered Providers and the managing agents they work with. Every finding names the document, the date and what good looks like, and every file gets a clear Gold, Green, Amber or Red rating.

  • Findings tied to documents and dates
  • Every grade set by an auditor
  • Constructive, not punitive
In short

What is Support Audit?

Support Audit is an independent audit service for supported housing in England. We review resident support files (assessments, support plans, risk assessments, session notes and reviews) against your own standards and the National Supported Housing Standards, then report what is working, what is missing and exactly how to fix it.

Why now

Licensing is coming. Evidence is what will count.

Supported exempt accommodation is moving to national standards and local licences. Providers who can show their support, file by file, will be ready for it.

01

National standards, local licences

The Supported Housing (Regulatory Oversight) Act 2023 lets government set National Supported Housing Standards and require a local licence to run supported exempt accommodation. Meeting the standards becomes a licence condition.

02

Housing Benefit tied to the licence

In its April 2026 response, government confirmed it will amend Housing Benefit regulations so that enhanced Housing Benefit in England is linked to the new licensing regime.

03

A short window to prepare

Government expects to consult on draft regulations in late 2026, with licensing expected from 2027. Local supported housing strategies are due by 31 March 2027.

Who it's for

One audit standard for both sides of the arrangement.

Independent oversight of every managing agent.

You hold the lease and the accountability. When licensing arrives, the landlord will need to show that the support provider meets the standards. We give you a consistent, evidence-based view of how each managing agent is supporting your residents, and what needs to change.

  • Audit rounds per managing agent, covering every resident file in scope
  • A report for each resident, plus overall feedback for the agent
  • Ratings and open actions tracked from one round to the next
  • A follow-up call 4 to 8 weeks later to check progress

Know where your files stand before anyone else checks.

Your Registered Provider, the council and soon a licensing team will all want evidence. A Mock Audit shows you what they would find, and how to fix it, while there is still time.

  • A fixed-fee Mock Audit across a sample of your resident files
  • Gaps found and explained, with examples your staff can follow
  • Strengths named specifically, so good practice gets repeated
  • A re-audit to show your Registered Provider the improvement
The audits

Start with one audit. Stay audit-ready.

Three ways to work with us, all run to the same checklist, the same rating key and the same standard of evidence.

Mock Audit

A fixed-fee review of a sample of resident files, run exactly as a full audit would be. Ideal before licensing, a contract review or an RP audit round.

  • Rating and evidence report per file
  • Action plan with worked examples
  • Debrief with your team

Audit Rounds

Every resident file for a managing agent, audited every six months, with findings you can take straight to the agent and track over time.

  • Report for each resident
  • Overall agent feedback and summary
  • Follow-up to confirm actions closed

Monitoring

Regular file sampling between audits, so standards don't drift and problems surface while they are still small.

How it works

A system that misses nothing. A person who decides.

Software does the first pass so every file is checked the same way. An experienced auditor reviews every judgement and sets every grade.

Scope

A short call to agree which files are in scope, which standards apply and your timescale. We confirm a fixed fee before anything starts.

Secure transfer

You share the resident files for the review period through a secure transfer. Only the files in scope are requested, and everything is handled as special category data.

Review

Our software checks every file against the audit checklist, flagging missing signatures, late reviews, unplanned risks and support hours. An experienced auditor then reviews every judgement and sets every grade.

Report

Each resident gets a rating with a reason, evidence for every finding, the strengths we found and practical next steps. Managing agents also get an overall feedback report.

Improve

We debrief with your team and check progress 4 to 8 weeks later. Then a re-audit confirms actions are closed, or monitoring keeps standards steady between rounds.

One clear rating per file

Gold, Green, Amber or Red. And exactly why.

Every resident file is rated against the same key, with a reason for the rating, so you can compare files, agents and rounds at a glance.

Gold

Complete, signed and current. Support is evidenced against every goal, with practice worth sharing across the service.

Share as best practice

Green

Compliant, with minor improvements to make. Nothing that puts the resident or the arrangement at risk.

Minor improvements

Amber

Gaps that need action within an agreed timescale, such as late reviews, incomplete records or goals without evidence.

Action required

Red

Key documents missing, risk plans not in place, support below the minimum, or missed sessions not followed up.

Immediate remediation
Inside every report

Feedback your staff can actually use.

No vague comments. Every resident report follows the same five-part structure, so teams know where to look and what to do next.

  1. 01

    Document checklist

A simple pass or action against each core document, with a short note wherever there is an issue.

  2. 02

    Evidence

Each issue names the document, the date and what is wrong, with an example of what good looks like.

  3. 03

    Support delivered

Every support goal checked for real actions in the session notes, and what to record where there aren't any.

  4. 04

    Strengths

Good practice named specifically, so it is recognised and repeated rather than lost among the findings.

  5. 05

    Next steps

Practical actions tied to the resident's own goals, with clear timescales.

Questions

Good to know.

Short answers to what providers ask most. Anything else, ask us on the call.

What does Support Audit do?

We audit resident support files in supported exempt and transitional housing. Each file is checked against a set checklist, rated Gold, Green, Amber or Red, and returned with evidence, strengths and practical next steps.

Who do you audit for?

Registered Providers who work with managing agents to deliver support, and managing agents or support providers who want an independent check of their own files.

Does AI decide the rating?

No. Our software does the first pass so every file is checked the same way and nothing is missed. An experienced auditor reviews every finding and sets every grade.

How often should resident files be audited?

Most of our audit rounds run every six months and cover the records for that review period. Monitoring adds lighter sampling in between, so issues are caught early.

Will the feedback be harsh?

It will be honest and specific, but the aim is to help teams improve. Strengths are named alongside issues, and every issue comes with an example of what good looks like.

Is this only for exempt accommodation?

No. We audit supported exempt accommodation and transitional supported housing, including residents moving from one to the other.
